Lemon Catnip
£5.75
Lemon Catnip (Nepeta cataria var. citriodora)
Lemon Catnip is a variety of traditional catnip. Unlike catnip, this plant is largely ignored by cats but offers an intense, pure lemon scent and flavour similar to lemon balm (Melissa officinalis). The soft, grey-green leaves are used for brewing soothing, caffeine-free digestive teas, flavouring summer cordials, or adding a citrus note to fresh salads and desserts.
The scent emitted by Lemon Catnip is a helpful repellent against a wide range of insect pests. Despite repelling pests, the plant is a documented magnet for beneficial insects. From early summer through to autumn, it produces continuous spikes of small, white to pale pink tubular flowers. These blooms are exceptionally rich in nectar, providing a highly reliable and heavily utilised forage resource for native bumblebees, honeybees, and hoverflies.
Perennial | 60/90cm tall | Full sun to partial shade | Lemon-scented edible leaves | Excellent pollinator forage and natural insect repellent

Lemon Catnip is an exceptionally resilient and low-maintenance herb. Holding an RHS H6 hardiness rating, it is fully hardy across the UK and will comfortably survive severe winter freezing down to -20°C. It performs best in poor, highly free-draining soil and a position in full sun, an environment that scientifically maximizes the concentration of essential oils in its foliage. Because it is drought-tolerant once established, it is an excellent candidate for dry borders, gravel gardens, or large containers. To maintain a tidy, compact habit and encourage a second flush of fresh, lemon-scented leaves and flowers, agronomic best practice dictates shearing the plant back by half immediately after its first summer blooming period.
All plants are carefully packed and sent in plastic-free packaging to protect both the plant and the environment. Plants are dispatched promptly so they arrive fresh, healthy, and ready to plant.
We ship orders using a tracked 24-hour delivery service, helping to minimise time in transit and reduce stress on the plant. Orders are packed by hand at the nursery, and we aim to dispatch early in the week to avoid delays over weekends.
If you have any questions about delivery timing or combining orders, please get in touch before ordering and we will be happy to help.
