Goji Berry (Lycium barbarum)
1 Healthy young plant sent in plastic-free packaging. 9cm pot.
Perennial shrub | 1/2m tall | Full sun | Edible berries and young leaves | High in antioxidants, easy to grow
Goji Berry is a deciduous shrub with slender, arching branches and narrow grey-green leaves, producing soft purple star-shaped flowers in summer followed by bright orange-red berries in early autumn. It grows well in borders, kitchen gardens, or as part of an edible hedge, bringing both ornamental value and a valuable harvest. Can be trained up against a wall or allowed to roam wild.
The berries have a mildly sweet, slightly tangy flavour and are traditionally dried for teas, cereals, and snacking, though they can also be eaten fresh when fully ripe. Rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and amino acids, they’ve long been prized in herbal and traditional Chinese medicine. Harvest berries once fully coloured and soft, and then dehydrate for the best flavour.
Goji is drought tolerant once established, low maintenance, and cold hardy. It thrives in well-drained soil with plenty of sun and benefits from light pruning to keep growth compact. Hardy, healthy, and highly rewarding, Goji Berry is a long-term addition to any productive garden.
