Crambe cordifolia is an absolute showstopper. In early to mid-summer, the plant erupts, sending up sturdy, branching stalks that top out at well over two metres tall. These stalks carry thousands of tiny, highly fragrant white flowers, creating an effect resembling a giant, frothy cloud of baby’s breath. This mass of flowers acts as a premium, highly visible beacon for local wildlife. The sweetly scented blooms provide an enormous, easily accessible nectar and pollen resource, drawing in huge numbers of foraging honeybees, bumblebees, hoverflies, and butterflies over an extended three-week blooming period.

Flowering Sea Kale is an incredibly long-lived, statuesque specimen plant. Holding a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) and an H6 hardiness rating, it is fully hardy across the UK and will comfortably survive extreme winter freezing. C. cordifolia likes deep, fertile, highly free-draining soil to accommodate its massive, deeply penetrating taproot. Because of this taproot, it resents being moved once established it’s best planted in its permanent home at the back of a large border or in a corner of your veg garden where it has the physical space to expand. Once the spectacular floral display finishes, cutting the towering stems back to the base maintains a tidy framework of bold green foliage for the remainder of the summer.

Love for the plants and passion for growing shines in abundance from the plants I have received. Delivered well packed and in great condition. Now I just need to read up on how to plant these properly in Huw’s book to do them justice and hopefully I’ll have little permaculture garden of my own for years to come. Great job Huw & everyone at Dyfi for inspiration and excellent YouTube chanel too

FAQs

We hope our FAQ’s help, but if you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

We can only send orders to other parts of mainland GB due to strict regulations for the sending of plant materials and sadly we do not have the capacity to fill in phytosanitary certificates.

As we are a small business we currently have one packing day a week, and so expect your delivery within 2 weeks from ordering your plants.

At this moment in time we are not open for visits to the nursery, however if you come on a volunteer day or in-person course with Huw or Sam at Dan Yr Onnen you can of course then see the nursery and purchase plants in person.

Because working with plants can be an unpredictable business, for simplicity we do not offer pre-orders on all products however we may occasuinally open certain orders for pre orders and these will be clearly marked. The best time to know that we have restocked is to join our mailing list followed by looking out for updates on our Instagram.

We have decided to focus on growing plants 100% naturally without the limitations of going with organic certification. No artificial pesticides, fungicides, or anyother-icides are used on site.
