Daubenton’s Variegated Perennial Kale (Brassica oleracea var. acephala)

*Incredibly rare perennial vegetable*

1 well-established plant sent in plastic-free packaging, with striking cream-edged green leaves and a long-lived habit that provides leafy harvests year after year without re-sowing. 9cm pot.

Perennial | 80–100cm tall | Full sun to partial shade | Edible leaves | Cut-and-come-again, ornamental edible

Daubenton’s Variegated Perennial Kale is a rare and beautiful variety of branching kale with thick, slightly crinkled green leaves edged in creamy white. It forms a bushy, multi-stemmed plant that grows larger each season and continues producing tender leaves without ever going to seed. Its ornamental appeal makes it equally suited to edible borders and display beds.

The leaves are mild and cabbage-like, ideal for steaming, stir-frying, soups, or raw in salads when young. Harvest from the outside in a cut-and-come-again fashion, and the plant will continue to thrive and regrow throughout the year, even through frosts in many climates.

Unlike annual brassicas, Daubenton’s kale doesn’t flower or bolt under normal conditions, making it one of the most reliable sources of leafy greens in a low-maintenance, perennial food garden. Rare, productive, and visually striking, this is a true standout among permaculture plants and can be propagated from stem cuttings.
