Apple Mint is a softly textured, spreading herb with round, slightly crinkled, pale green leaves covered in fine hairs. It forms a bushy, leafy clump that thrives from spring through to autumn, producing slender spikes of pale pink flowers in late summer that pollinators adore. More gentle and ornamental than standard peppermint, it’s equally at home in a herb bed, container, or tucked into the edges of a cottage garden.

The flavour is light, sweet, and fruity with notes of apple and spearmint, making it ideal for infusing into cold drinks, herbal teas, or syrups. Leaves can be picked fresh throughout the season and used raw or lightly cooked. Unlike sharper mints, Apple Mint brings a mellow coolness that doesn’t overpower, and its soft texture makes it especially appealing in desserts and salads.

It spreads easily but is simple to manage by lifting and dividing clumps or growing it in a pot. A great companion plant, Apple Mint attracts bees and beneficial insects while helping to deter pests like aphids and ants. Vigorous, forgiving, and full of charm, this is a mint with a twist worth making space for.
