Apple Mint (Mentha suaveolens)

Apple Mint is a softly textured, spreading herb with round, slightly crinkled, pale green leaves covered in fine hairs. It forms a bushy, leafy clump that thrives from spring through to autumn, producing slender spikes of pale pink flowers in late summer that pollinators adore. More gentle and ornamental than standard peppermint, it’s equally at home in a herb bed, container, or tucked into the edges of a cottage garden. The flavour is light, sweet, and fruity with notes of apple and spearmint, making it ideal for infusing into cold drinks, herbal teas, or syrups.

Please Note: This plant dies back over winter and resprouts in the spring.

Hardy Perennial | Height 40-60| Full sun to partial shade | Culinary herb, teas, garnish | Fuzzy leaves with fruity scent

The flavour is light, sweet, and fruity with notes of apple and spearmint, making it ideal for infusing into cold drinks, herbal teas, or syrups. Leaves can be picked fresh throughout the season and used raw or lightly cooked. Unlike sharper mints, Apple Mint brings a mellow coolness that doesn’t overpower, and its soft texture makes it especially appealing in desserts and salads.

It spreads easily but is simple to manage by lifting and dividing clumps or growing it in a pot. A great companion plant, Apple Mint attracts bees and beneficial insects while helping to deter pests like aphids and ants. Vigorous, forgiving, and full of charm, this is a mint with a twist worth making space for.

FAQs

We hope our FAQ’s help, but if you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

We can only send orders to other parts of mainland GB due to strict regulations for the sending of plant materials and sadly we do not have the capacity to fill in phytosanitary certificates.

As we are a small business we currently have one packing day a week, and so expect your delivery within 2 weeks from ordering your plants.

At this moment in time we are not open for visits to the nursery, however if you come on a volunteer day or in-person course with Huw or Sam at Dan Yr Onnen you can of course then see the nursery and purchase plants in person.

Because working with plants can be an unpredictable business, for simplicity we do not offer pre-orders on all products however we may occasuinally open certain orders for pre orders and these will be clearly marked. The best time to know that we have restocked is to join our mailing list followed by looking out for updates on our Instagram.

We have decided to focus on growing plants 100% naturally without the limitations of going with organic certification. No artificial pesticides, fungicides, or anyother-icides are used on site.
