Angelica (Angelica archangelica)

Angelica is a true titan of the herb garden, a statuesque plant that brings a sense of drama to any space. Every part of the plant is aromatic and useful. The young stems and leaf stalks are traditionally candied or used to add a bright, musky-sweet depth to rhubarb and gooseberry preserves, naturally reducing the need for added sugar. The seeds and roots are staples in botanical infusions.  As a short-lived perennial that readily self-seeds, allowing you to enjoy it in your garden for many years.

Biennial | 150-250cm tall | Full sun to partial shade | Culinary herb, medicinal | Deep taproot, high nectar producer.

Angelica (Angelica archangelica)

1 well-established plant in a 1 Litre pot, sent in plastic-free packaging. A towering, architectural biennial of ancient lineage, revered for its aromatic stems, medicinal history, and its commanding presence in the sustainable landscape.

Biennial | 150/250cm tall | Full sun to partial shade | Culinary herb, medicinal | Deep taproot, high nectar producer

Angelica is a true titan of the herb garden, a statuesque plant that brings a sense of drama to any space. In its first year, it develops a lush mound of large, bright green, divided leaves; in its second year, it erupts into thick, hollow, purple-tinted stems topped with massive, globe-like umbels of lime-green flowers. Within a permaculture guild or a forest garden, Angelica serves as a critical “upper story” herbaceous layer. Its massive taproot acts as a dynamic accumulator.

Angelica has a high yield of accessible nectar in its flower heads making it a magnetic hub for a vast diversity of beneficial insects, particularly predatory wasps, hoverflies, and lacewings. It thrives in damp, fertile soils and cool, semi-shaded positions, making it an ideal choice for stabilising pond edges or flourishing in the dappled light beneath a fruit tree canopy.

Arrived in great condition, some of the best plant packing I’ve come across.

  2. Mandy Gordon (verified owner)

Both plants badly damaged. One section completely snapped in half. I think more support is needed for the plants in packaging.

FAQs

We hope our FAQ’s help, but if you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

We can only send orders to other parts of mainland GB due to strict regulations for the sending of plant materials and sadly we do not have the capacity to fill in phytosanitary certificates.

As we are a small business we currently have one packing day a week, and so expect your delivery within 2 weeks from ordering your plants.

At this moment in time we are not open for visits to the nursery, however if you come on a volunteer day or in-person course with Huw or Sam at Dan Yr Onnen you can of course then see the nursery and purchase plants in person.

Because working with plants can be an unpredictable business, for simplicity we do not offer pre-orders on all products however we may occasuinally open certain orders for pre orders and these will be clearly marked. The best time to know that we have restocked is to join our mailing list followed by looking out for updates on our Instagram.

We have decided to focus on growing plants 100% naturally without the limitations of going with organic certification. No artificial pesticides, fungicides, or anyother-icides are used on site.
