9 STAR PERENNIAL BROCCOLI (BRASSICA OLERACEA VAR. ITALICA ‘9 STAR’)

A true gem of the perennial garden, 9 Star Perennial Broccoli produces clusters of creamy-white, broccoli-like florets each spring, just when fresh greens are most welcome during the hungry gap. Compact and hardy, it offers a beautiful blend of form and function, with soft, frilled leaves and multiple branching stems that keep on giving year after year. The flavour is delicate and nutty, milder than traditional broccoli, and the florets are ideal for steaming, roasting, or adding raw to spring salads.

Important Note: To keep this plant growing from year to year its important to remove all the flowering spikes in the spring.

Short Lived Perennial | Height 60-90cm  | Full sun | Spring florets & edible foliage

Short Lived Perennial | Height 60-90cm  | Full sun | Spring florets & edible foliage

Even the young leaves are edible and cook down beautifully like kale or collards. Unlike sprouting broccoli, 9 Star doesn’t require overwintering sowings, just a little patience and light maintenance to enjoy reliable annual harvests.

In a permaculture system, this short-lived perennial brassica pulls its weight: it provides early-season food, encourages biodiversity, and helps bridge the gap between winter and summer abundance. Left to flower, it becomes a pollinator magnet, though removing flowers will prolong its productive lifespan. A graceful, space-saving crop for resilient gardeners and flavour-seekers alike.

Love for the plants and passion for growing shines in abundance from the plants I have received. Delivered well packed and in great condition. Now I just need to read up on how to plant these properly in Huw’s book to do them justice and hopefully I’ll have little permaculture garden of my own for years to come. Great job Huw & everyone at Dyfi for inspiration and excellent YouTube chanel too

FAQs

We hope our FAQ’s help, but if you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

We can only send orders to other parts of mainland GB due to strict regulations for the sending of plant materials and sadly we do not have the capacity to fill in phytosanitary certificates.

As we are a small business we currently have one packing day a week, and so expect your delivery within 2 weeks from ordering your plants.

At this moment in time we are not open for visits to the nursery, however if you come on a volunteer day or in-person course with Huw or Sam at Dan Yr Onnen you can of course then see the nursery and purchase plants in person.

Because working with plants can be an unpredictable business, for simplicity we do not offer pre-orders on all products however we may occasuinally open certain orders for pre orders and these will be clearly marked. The best time to know that we have restocked is to join our mailing list followed by looking out for updates on our Instagram.

We have decided to focus on growing plants 100% naturally without the limitations of going with organic certification. No artificial pesticides, fungicides, or anyother-icides are used on site.
