We got an email from @tymhorau_cymru that they needed more plants after a strong first week of sales. And so we pulled together a nice selection which is now ready over at Tymhorau for sales tomorrow. I know a couple of you went and were disappointed there weren't many plants left, so strike whilst the irons hot!🌿 #nursery #dyfiplants

Welcome to the nursery site, situated at Dan Yr Onnen gardens between Borth and Aberystwyth🌿 This image is of the site last summer, and since then a lot has happened and the main nursery area is now underneath the ash tree (top left). The whole site will act as a place to showcase plants and planting schemes, trial new varieties, and propagate from for Dyfi Plants. The second photo is the same view but 3 years ago in early 2022 before we broke ground. We are super excited to do the next comparison photo this summer, and have hundreds more perennials to plant before buds break in spring. This whole site is completely natural, to show that growing food is best done hand-in-hand with nature. Work with it, not against it🌿 #dyfiplants #permaculture

Hello🌿 Welcome to @dyfiplants and the first 243

Hello🌿 Welcome to @dyfiplants and the first 243 pots (undercover) ready to grow on before selling later this season. I've always wanted to start a plant nursery, my YouTube channel was even called "HuwsNursery" in the early days but fast forward 14 years and it's morphed into something very new and exciting. This is a project I am doing in collaboration with @chef.sam.black to provide a wide range of plants for resilient edible growing projects. This includes allotments, community gardens, and farms. We will be stocking a wide range of trees, shrubs, fruit, herbs, flowers, and vegetables with an emphasis on perennial crops.

We are also focusing on flavour, and hope to make incredible flavours you simply cannot buy from a shop as accessible to as many as possible, and Sam will be taking the lead of selecting those truly special varieties.

Dyfi Plants will be both mail order and in-person, and the website is being built. 2025 Will have a very limited range online as we begin to ramp up production and focus on local sales first, but don't worry, we will be selling mashua tubers very soon! We are also busy planting all the mother stock to do as much in-house propagation as possible, along with raising as much from seed as we can. I've sown 1,500 module cells this weekend as the first step.

Here are a few little bits of info about the nursery:
1) For every 10 plants sold, 1 perennial edible will be donated to a community growing project
2) We will aim to reuse as many second hand pots as possible, and all other plastic (pots, containers, crates, baskets etc) are made from recycled materials
3) NO CHEMICALS
4) There is an incoming YouTube channel to document the happenings at the nursery that my colleague @willsmp4s is running (videos start this week)
5) Focus on plants for permaculture such as forest gardens, polyculture and plants with multiple benefits
6) Peat free (obviously)

This is a huge undertaking but there is a need for more small scale nurseries across the UK supplying edible plants. If you feel you could help this project in any way, such as having a shed load of empty pots, then please do get in touch.

We can only send orders to other parts of mainland GB due to strict regulations for the sending of plant materials and sadly we do not have the capacity to fill in phytosanitary certificates.

As we are a small business we currently have one packing day a week, and so expect your delivery within 2 weeks from ordering your plants.

At this moment in time we are not open for visits to the nursery, however if you come on a volunteer day or in-person course with Huw or Sam at Dan Yr Onnen you can of course then see the nursery and purchase plants in person.

Because working with plants can be an unpredictable business, for simplicity we do not offer pre-orders however we may be able to offer a special offer so do get in touch. The best time to know that we have restocked is to join our mailing list followed by looking out for updates on our Instagram.

We have decided to focus on growing plants 100% naturally without the limitations of going with organic certification. No artificial pesticides, fungicides, or anyother-icides are used on site.

Yes – we allow bank transfers! Please select the ‘bank transfer’ option when ordering, and then we will send you the relevant details for payment. Please note we will not be able to send out plants until the bank transfer has been processed.
